The 'Calliope Aluminium Technology' loudspeaker range utilises an innovative construction technique to improve performance: the cabinet 'wrap' is ribbed and damped and formed from a large custom Aluminium extrusion. The top and bottom are die-cast aluminium, ribbed for stiffness, which are very tightly bolted together, constraining the 'wrap' between them. This produces an immensely stiff and strong cabinet that is also well damped.

...the importance of the dialogue loudspeaker is often underestimated
A home-cinema's so called centre speaker carries the all-important dialogue of a movie and most of the sound energy whilst often placed in the most unforgiving position, above or below a television.

The solution is a dedicated, heavy Centre Channel loudspeaker, with drive units arranged in a D'Appolito configuration and voiced for installation on top of or below a screen. Optimised drive units mounted very close together offers uniform directivity with frequency and is thus far less room dependant than conventional designs.

The Centre Channel utilises two 150mm mid/bass drive units either side of the HF unit. The drive units were carefully chosen to match the low coloration of the cabinet and then were optimised to suit the cabinet volume and shape. The mid-bass units are magnetically shielded designs utilising a woven, composite cone to ensure rigid, pistonic motion for dynamic transient low-frequency performance, resulting in a smooth and extended frequency response, whilst their voice coils and shielded-magnet motor systems were designed to ensure linear motion for vastly reduced distortion. Finally a phase plug was mounted to improve off-axis dispersion.

The HF unit is a 19 mm coated textile dome utilising a special doping compound chosen for consistency and longevity. The motor system incorporates a button cup rare-earth Neodymium magnet chosen for its dynamic integrity and intrinsic magnetic shielding. The result is a linear driving force, resulting in superb dynamics and amazingly low compression. p> The crossover is hard-wired and uses the finest components such as ICW polypropylene capacitors with copper lead outs and six nines copper throughout. The tweeter is fed via an auto-transformer for optimum gain matching without the usual sound-degrading resistor.

Calliope Centre is provided with a heavy metal plinth to provide a stable mount and to point it at the audience for best sound quality.

Metallic Paint Finish
The Calliope Centre Loudspeaker and Bass Extension Module are painted using a very high quality metallic paint finish which is carefully lacquered and polished to a standard rarely found in audio equipment. Nine fashionable metallic colours are available allowing these speakers to integrate into all living rooms.
