producing a sound field that is far more natural and faithful to

The sound you hear from your Home Cinema system
is a combination of the direct sound from the loudspeakers¡¯ drive units,
reflections of the loudspeakers¡¯ output from the walls, floor, ceiling and
furniture of the room, acoustic resonances of the room and resonances in
the loudspeakers¡¯ cabinets, both direct and reflected. As a result of all
these contributions to the sound, what arrives at your ears is very different
from the waveform that is sent to the loudspeakers.
Here is the in-room response of a loudspeaker showing
variations of more than 10dB, despite having an almost perfectly flat
response when placed in an anechoic test chamber. The flat response is
gone, the room is interacting with the sound.
Equalisation allows us to correct many of these distortions
and get much closer to the sound that was recorded. The main role of equalisation
is to attenuate areas where there are room induced peaks in the response,
which has the added benefit that loudspeakers and amplifiers will not
have to work as hard at these frequencies, reducing distortion

Dolby Headphone is a revolutionary signal-processing
system that can take up to five channels of audio from any source
and make it almost sound like it's coming from that many speakers
in a real listening room. The ¡®in your head' effect of regular headphone
listening is replaced by a spacious, natural soundfield.

Dolby Headphone's powerful signal-processing algorithm
generates a host of audio cues modelled from real life, from which
our ears and brain derive a three-dimensional sound image. When
you listen to a 5.1 sources you hear the sound of five speakers:
three in front of you, and a surround speaker to each side. When
you listen to stereo material, you hear the sound of two speakers
not at your ears, but out in front of you.
Because of the way Dolby Headphone
Technology works and the power of its signal processing, Dolby Headphone
technology can model the sound of a playback system in up to three
different listening environments, based on acoustic measurements
of real rooms:
-DH1 is a small, well-damped room appropriate for both movies
and music-only recordings. It is the Dolby Headphone "Reference
Room".
-DH2 is a more acoustically
live (or "wet") room particularly suited to music listening,
but also great for movies.
-DH3 is a larger room, more
like a concert hall or movie theater.

7.1 Channel Hardware
Option (±âº»ÀåÂø)
This option adds those essential two back channels which are necessary
to replay recordings in Dolby EX or DTS-ES 6.1. They are also required
to make use of the Height Channel. Highly recommended for an improvement
of spaciousness and completeness of the surround information.

Hardware Option (±âº»ÀåÂø)
Action switches are used to control external events,
such as automatically lowering a motorised screen when you want
to watch a movie. The AV30R
Action-Switches option includes, for this purpose, three switches
which are controlled by the AV30R¡¯s software. |

They are accessible via a 9 pin D-type connector, see left, which
is mounted at the rear panel of the AV30R.
Each Action-Switch is accessed by the AV30R when
you press any of the relevant input keys on the remote control or
when you press standby. The AV30R can be programmed to open, close
or leave the switches in the same position

DAB
Digital Radio Hardware Option |

Much has been written about DAB Digital Broadcast, the new radio system,
adopted by many countries to push radio broadcasting into the digital future.
DAB Digital Radio, provides noise-free reception, additional programmes
and extended digital data services. TAG
McLaren has always been a keen supporter of Digital Radio. We demonstrated
this when launching our T32RDAB, which was the first tuner combining AM/FM
with Digital Radio. We are proud that the hard work which went into the
T32R has been appreciated by the many radio stations who use the T32R
as their reference and by many audio critics who consider the T32R to
be possibly the best radio in the world.

This option adds the ability to retrieve Dolby
Digital sound from Laser Disks. There are few NTSC Laserdiscs produced
in this format. This upgrade is not required for Dolby Digital recorded
on DVD.
HDCD?
Software Option (±âº»ÀåÂø)

Using HDCD1, a recording engineer can record
the music at a higher resolution than on a standard CD. HDCD-encoded CDs
have 20-bit resolution compared with the 16-bit for ordinary CDs. This
gives a greater dynamic range, a more focussed, spatial image and a more
musical timbre. The HDCD software option is available for all versions
of the AV30R.

6.1 Discrete and DTS Neo:6 Software Option (±âº»ÀåÂø)
This option requires an AV30R equipped with the
7.1 channel hardware option. It adds the capability to decode DVDs
recorded in DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete and also provides the DTS version
of enhancing stereo recordings through Neo:6 Music and Neo:6 Movie.

MPEG-2 Software Option
(±âº»ÀåÂø) Some might remember
that MPEG-2 was once destined to become the only sound format for European
DVDs, with Dolby Digital being limited to other parts of the world. Fortunately,
this decision was quickly overruled by market forces. In actual fact, very,
very few MPEG-2 encoded DVDs ever made it into the shops.
Nevertheless, if you own one of these rarities, then
this option is for you
